What are SCAC Codes?
- Legal company name and trade name (DBA)
- Full mailing address
- Your FMCSA USDOT number, and MC/MX number if you have operating authority
- A credit card for the fee
Step 1 — Go to the official NMFTA portal
Apply only at scaccode.com or nmfta.org/scac. Since February 2026, NMFTA is the sole issuer — avoid third-party resellers.
Step 2 — Complete the application
Enter your company details and operating authority numbers exactly as registered with FMCSA.
Step 3 — Pay the fees
The application fee is $100, plus a $5 identity-verification fee (2026). Pay by credit card for fastest processing.
Step 4 — Receive your code
You’ll get your approval letter and SCAC certificate by email, usually within 1–2 business days (often within 24 hours).
Step 5 — Renew every year
SCAC codes expire annually. Set a reminder — if you miss it, you have a three-year window to reinstate before the code is released.
How long does it take?
Typically 1–2 business days; often same-day when paying online by card.
